In Arnhem Land, Outback Spirit has worked closely with Traditional Owners to provide access to areas few visitors get to see. Cruise through the wetlands of the Arafura Swamp looking for birdlife and crocodiles, see ancient rock art at Mount Borradaile and visit remote art centres along the way. Further north, explore the Cobourg Peninsula and spend time at Seven Spirit Bay, with a boat trip to the ruins of the historic Victoria Settlement at Port Essington.
Then there’s the Kimberley. Follow the Gibb River Road through a landscape of gorges, waterfalls and wide-open country. Walk among the striped domes of the Bungle Bungles, visit Mitchell Falls and cool off at Zebedee Thermal Springs. Some itineraries also include a seaplane flight over the Buccaneer Archipelago and Horizontal Falls, time at remote Faraway Bay or a cruise along the Ord River.
Travelling somewhere this remote takes a fair bit of planning, but that’s all taken care of. Groups are kept small, with a maximum of 20 or 22 guests and travel is aboard purpose-built Mercedes-Benz 4WD vehicles. Accommodation ranges from hotels and resorts to safari camps and wilderness lodges, while meals, selected beverages and attraction fees are included.
